Most recipes I illustrate are part memories of people or places, and part journey how they changed and morphed in my life. I drank my first Limoncello courtesy to an italian neighbor coming home from a visit with his sardinian family. He graciously shared his personal stash of nonna’s Limoncello with us. So right from the start I got spoiled with the good stuff! We liked it so much that we decided to make our own. The first batch was with pure 90% alcohol from the pharmacy, which admittedly provides a premium extraction of the essential oils, but is also awfully expensive. So we started experimenting, and long before the current gin craze we hit upon making our Limoncello with gin. Dear Italians don’t get angry! We like this version tremendously: the juniper notes of the gin blends wonderfully with the citrus notes!
If you want to go the more traditional route swap the gin for 90% alcohol from the pharmacy! Make it your own and enjoy!
