This recipe is an hommage to my wonderful mom in law and her vineyard peaches. Vineyard peaches are an old peach variety with dark pink, almost purple flesh, very fuzzy skin and a tangy, complex aroma. They are not particularly fun to eat raw - but bake or cook them, and be prepared to be blown away! They are not commercially grown and so my MIL cultivates her own tree. She grew a tree for us out of a peach pit and we had to wait several years until our tree finally was grown enough to bear fruit. This year is the year, and we will celebrate the harvest by preparing this deceptively simple, but delectable gratin she makes every autumn. For the boys it is an event they anticipate for months and a wonderful memory they share with their „Oma“. So in case you ever have chance to get your hands on some vineyard peaches: here is the recipe for you!

I'm quite jealous of your homegrown peach tree! This is such an amazing and comforting tribute to your Mother-in-law and her Vineland peaches. I LOVE the peach garland and the smiling faces. The deep green really sets off the peachy-ness :-)

Thank you so much, Salli! For the kids peach harvest is quite the crowning moment of autumn! :-)
