I was inspired to create this illustration after I read an article on the BBC website by Farrell Monaco about the fresco that was recently discovered in Pompeii that depicts an ancient Roman culinary delight known as the andoreum - which was a circular flatbread that usually had cheese, fruits (chestnuts, apricots, peaches, figs) and or eggs as toppings.

This fresco and article fascinated me so much I made a modern day illustration depicting the ingredients and the flatbread itself.
