Iceland Dreams

During my trip to Iceland this past summer, I spent a lot of time in the car looking out the window at the vast natural world. All of the landscapes I saw felt dreamy and often otherworldly. The scale of the natural formations in Iceland were hard to make sense of in my mind, until we’d drive around a bend and I’d see a tiny farm house amongst the enormous mountains. Despite its name, the country of Iceland is quite green! We visited in the summer, when there was 20 hours of daylight each day. I snapped hundreds of photos of the terrain I saw, thinking I might paint it someday.

This painting is based on a real scene, but with quite a bit of artistic interpretation. It’s for The Great Outdoors project with Uppercase Magazine.
