Cafe de Olla or coffee made in a pot is a historic Mexican coffee-based drink. It is prepared by combining spices and coffee in a clay pot. However, while many enjoy it for its unique blend of flavors, it was actually invented a few decades ago out of necessity. The drink was supposedly created during the Mexican Revolution in the early 20th century for the country's soldiers. By mixing spices and coffee in a clay pot, they could prepare and enjoy a hot drink during the long, cold nights in the war fields.
