North America has a least 20 breeds of horses that were bred for various agricultural purposes. There are also many "breeds" of feral horses (and donkeys!). When we think of North American wild horse, one pictures the wild Mustang, but there are several "breed" variations of Mustang> There are also several wild horse herds on the Atlantic coast ranging from Maryland to Georgia.
Cowboys and horses are usually pictured in the wild west, but there are cowboys in Florida, too! On the Island of Chincoteague, Virginia, there are saltwater cowboys who round up the wild ponies of Assateague every year in July!
North American has a long history of horses and the roles they played in the "New World>"
